Family& Private Cemeteries in Surry CountyWhen I started this page several years ago my desire was to create a list of cemeteries I had surveyed in Surry County and update them periodically. However, since 2006 several volunteers (including myself) of the Surry County Genealogical Association have been trying to locate, record, and post cemeteries (not those buried in them) within Surry County. Those surveys can be found at http://cemeterycensus.com/nc/surr/index.htm. Where burial surveys are provided, they came from individual voluntary contributions from others who send us their information to post on-line. Once you visit the site, and if you don't see a cemetery that you know exists, please send me an email telling me the location and directions. Also, when you visit the http://cemeterycensus.com/nc/surr/index.htm, please do not copy the information and post it on other sites as if the data were your own research. That's poor genealogy courtesy. And while birth and death dates are not copyrighted since they are facts, photos we provide are copyrighted and it is illegal to clip a copy of it from us and post it at another site without the owner's approval. We have already seen this occur with some individuals who contribute to Find-A-Grave as well as other sites, so please be considerate. If you send us information about a cemetery, or photos, we will give you credit as the contributor but please make sure it is not already on another website.
